"Sonne" is the local abbreviation for "Sonnen-Bassermann", a factory complex in the town of Seesen in Lower Saxony where ready meals and pasta were once produced. Seesen was once a thriving small town with cinemas and theatres, pubs and shops.
In addition to tinned food, cigars, magnetic toys and tin cans were produced here. However, the days when the factories here brought work and prosperity are long gone and the promise of growth has been exhausted.
The project deals with the idea of preservation from a biographical, material and socio-economic perspective: food preservation as a historical achievement, the persistence of nostalgia for a flourishing industry and the critical-artistic preservation of one's own history and class affiliation. In addition to a video work and an installation, a publication entitled "Konservierte Verhältnisse" ("Preserved Conditions") has also been produced, which deals with the topic of class between scientific research and personal narrative.
